At least, temporarily.
And after looking on pinterest at yurts (I couldn't quite picture living in one at first) I am actually kind of excited about it haha. But I will tell you more when I find out more details.
Also, I keep thinking about that time I went camping with your family in the yurt village, Amber! And that horrible picture of me in overalls. What was I thinking?
but really, look how lovely a yurt can be?
I want to live in a yurt! At least I have always wanted to stay in one, especially a winter yurt. More details please! (if possible) where would this be? and how is this a possibility?
ReplyDeleteAhhhh!! A yurt! That will be so funny and awesome...
ReplyDeleteCandice - a friend of mine has a cousin who lives in a community in Indianola called "Wise Acres". He is currently renting a yurt for only $500 a month, and will be moving out sometime in June. The people in this community have their own houses, but there is a community garden and a community house, where once a week a different family cooks for the whole community. Very cool place, and a place we have been wanting to figure out how to reach out to for some time. There is one christian family who attends our church, and the yurt is actually right by their house. He is really excited about the idea of us coming and living there, because he really wants to create a bridge from the church and this community. Living in a yurt of course would be a bit of a sacrifice in some ways - even though we're used to having to work a bit to keep places clean and warm, we know we wouldn't be totally comfortable all the time. But we're looking at it as an amazing missionary opportunity into a very spiritually dark place, I believe. And I think we also would benefit by learning a lot of things (like, continuing in learning to simplify life, learning to garden, to actually get along in a community with people who are different than us, etc.).
ReplyDeleteAnyway, we are actually very excited about the idea. We are hoping to get to go look at the yurt soon to make sure we could really live in it (Jeremy has stepped inside of it before, and remembers it being pretty spacious, but can't remember many details about it). This would also help us know what furniture to take/leave/sell and just put what we need into storage for a month until we can move. We will probably be moving in with Jeremy's parents until the guy moves out of the yurt. But that's fine, because we can save some money on rent for a couple of months and probably do some extra work at the church. And have more date nights, since the kids can sleep while his parents are just home anyway :)
Amber - I KNOW! ha ha...hopefully, anyway.
I can't wait to see your guys yurt if this all works out! If I knew anyone who could make a yurt work I would pick you. You will make it look cute and awesome, and will make the most of that community you will move into. Keep us updated!
