SO...the house we're in is still on the market, as you girls know. The Landlord told me that it would be still on the market for about 4-6 weeks after we moved in, because they couldn't break their agreement with the realtors, and after that point, if no one buys the house, we can sign a longer lease. We've been crossing our fingers and praying that no one buys it before then.
Back in January, after it had been on the market for 6 weeks, they had only showed the house once. I don't think they've had anyone else in to see it since then, but I don't know for sure. I got a call this morning from a realtor and someone is coming to look at it in about an hour. I also wonder if our landlords will change their mind since they got another "bite", and want to leave it for sale for a while longer.
Here's the thing though, I'm not really worried. I mean, of course someone looking at it doesn't mean it will indefinitely be bought, but there is certainly always a chance. Yes, it would be a little sad if we had to leave. Not only because we love it here, but because moving isn't exactly my favorite thing (despite how often we tend to do it). But maybe the reason that we're here is because God wanted us month-to-month so we could move to where he wants to take us. I mean, sure, it would've been cheaper to stay month-to-month at the apartment and a lot less work, but we would've signed a 6 month lease there and maybe never learned a lesson we're supposed to.
Anyway, I am still kind of anxious about it and feel like I REALLY have to trust in God at this time, because I'll just go insane otherwise. We know 100% that He wanted us here, or all this crazy stuff wouldn't have happened the way that it did, and we knew what we agreed to when we moved in. So maybe He just wants me to continue to trust that He's got it all worked out. No, duh?
Its so sunny out and I feel overwhelmingly happy today!
And here is my crazy son squishing his face through our kitchen chairs. He did this for like 10 minutes while I was washing dishes the other day and boy, was he amused with himself. He is so funny and is growing SO quickly! He's starting to say words and he understands so much, I am amazed everyday!
becca, thanks for updating us and for your positive attitude. If you're there when the potential buyers are there you should point out all the bad things about the house, haha. Or make stuff up about termites in the walls. Just kidding!
ReplyDeleteWe looked at at least 40 houses; I know Paul and Angela did, too. So maybe these folks are just casually looking like we were at first.
Other things you can do if you're there when they're looking: Act crazy, stink the house up with cigarettes and alcohol, sleep on the floor in sleeping bags when they come in and say "sorry, really wild party last night and we're all hungover", take out the lightbulbs so everything is dark, make the house messy, make yourself look messy, and above all, follow them around as they look at the house so they'll feel uncomfortable!
It also helps to keep interrupting them as they observe things because it's just plain annoying. They open a door to the garage and you say "Oh, that's the garage. We put our cars in there. We also put other stuff in there. Here's the light switch. Now you can see into our garage!"
Or loosen the lightbulbs in a room and say "sorry, the switch is broken" when you try to turn on the light. Tell them they have to give you 30 cents to use the bathroom because you can't afford your water bill. Ask them if they'd like some instant coffee because "that's all we can afford" and then give it to them in a Dixie cup. Have a loud argument with your husband about money in front of them. Tell them stories about your childhood. When they go in the bathroom, show them the places where Shea has peed.
ReplyDeleteOkay I think I'm done now.
haha you are so funny! We have these alphabet letters in the tub that stick on the wall, and we were joking this morning about writing "you don't want this house". There are enough strange things in the house, that I don't think many would buy it. The hallway lights are broken, there are lots of loose things, and the house is totally NOT level - you walk downhill into our bedroom and everything is at an angle (I used my level to hang everything straight, but its hard to tell because of the ceiling). Lots of cosmetic fixes, but I don't know that the house has that great of a value.
ReplyDeleteHaha I love Amber's ideas! Amber is right about the fact that we looked at 40+ houses. Paul and I would look at 17 in a day, so maybe this is just one of many and they will just take a quick glance at it. Too bad you made it look super cute with all your decorating! God has a plan though, and he knows exactly what is going to happen, and whatever the reason for these people coming to look at the house will be shown in the future. As for now, I hope you get to rent it for quite some time more though!
ReplyDeletehaha I was thinking the same thing too..just don't clean! Your insight you gave on my post could be applied here too. God has everything under control and knows way more than we do. If only we could get our emotions to follow along with this head knowledge! I'm been thinking a lot lately about the verse Jeremiah 29:11
ReplyDelete"For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you, and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." (this was our wedding verse, and has been a comfort in times of limbo)
Ha, thanks girls for helping me laugh about it. And its true, we totally have it staged better than they did originally, so we're like almost helping them. But I feel good about being a good tenant, and for their sake, I DO want it to sell, but of course, I don't really.
ReplyDeleteCandice - I think thats why I read your post that morning. I think everything I wrote was a reminder to myself about letting God be in charge. And I was absolutely not worried about it at all that day! Funny thing - the house was showed AGAIN today.
