I'm done with school...for the next week! Then I take three more 8-week classes.

I'm trying to convince Joe that we should go away for a night. He hasn't had two days off in a row for weeks, and it's really wearing on him, especially since he has to drive to Olympia nearly every day. We're trying to look into getting the house fixed up to rent and buying a new house - but it's kind of difficult when I'm in school full time and he hardly has a day off!

My solution is to get away for a night at a Bed and Breakfast, but I'm having trouble convincing him it's necessary. Here's where I want to go:

Here are the reasons I've given for going:

  • I miss how happy he is when we're away from home
  • It's my reward for finishing 8 weeks of school (yes, lame excuse, I know)
I know these are all "I" statements. This is because never in a million years will I convince him that we should spend $200 for him. I'm still revising my "it's for us" argument without being manipulative - because, truth be told, if he really doesn't want to go, I'm not going to force it because the point is for us both to enjoy it.

Girls, help me! We really need time away! I cried last night! Sunday is his day off and I want to go up on Saturday. Any cheaper suggestions that involve a vacation-like setting and no cheap hotels?

What do you do with your husbands when you absolutely have to get away?

  1. Hey Amber, I totally understand just needing to get away! Hmm let me see if I can help you out...

There are closer and cheaper Bed and Breakfasts, if you want to get away and he probably doesn't want to drive too far or spend too much.

This one said it was 105 a night.

This place is 135 and sounds awesome, its in Kent, so you would be away but not a long drive away like he has to do every day. http://www.victoriangardensbandb.com/rates.html

What Paul and I do is much different, because we don't really like to spend money. We go crabbing for the day (which cost's gas and chicken bait). One time we went clamming and randomly decided to stay in a hotel in the small town of Brinnon so we could clam the next morning, it was a super cheap, 45 a night, 70's style hotel, but it was one of the best trips because nothing was planned! We plan things with Kathy and Steve, like salsa making, we make day trips to Ruston and Seattle, and we have days where we tell ourselves we are going to do nothing productive. We wake up whenever we want, spend hours in bed playing computer and itouch, get up and make pancakes, watch tv, lay around, make lunch, go lay in bed again, maybe go for a walk, and who knows what else we fill our day with. I would suggest getting Joe out of the house for sure though because if he is there he will just be thinking of all the projects he should be doing. (and if he is like me he will even be thinking about them when he is away and it will bother him he is not accomplishing them but he will be loving the vacation at the same time. )

I love you Amber, can't wait to see you at 1:15! We shall chat more them. (I am just sneaking this post in during the baby's nap. :) )

  4. Oh Amber! I absolutely KNOW what you mean! We're trying to take a Sunday off from church and get away, but its hard when its the one visible thing the people see us doing...

Anyway, don't your parents have a Worldmark timeshare membership? I don't know how it works with you guys, but Jeremy's parents usually call and get bonus time and we can get a night at a condo for only 40 or 60 bucks/night depending on the season. There's one up in Birch Bay that we like to go to - I know it's in the cheaper season right now, has a pool and hot tub - some even have a jacuzzi in the rooms at that one. And there is a super cute town called Lynden close by with a really cute tea shop and little mall and stuff. Anyway, its far enough away without being too far.

Once you get some trips in with just the two of you, it might be fun sometime to get one together, since they have like three rooms, and if we split the cost it would be super cheap! We went up to the Birch Bay one with Joe and Liz once and had a fun time staying up and playing games and watching movies :)

Hope you guys get away, even if its only for the day!

  5. hmmmm...how can I be of help when you've already gotten such good suggestions! I haven't ever had to deal with your problem. We went camping this summer but I think its too late in the season...you could go visit Grandma on Whidbey! I'm joking...but it would be free. Too bad she doesn't have her condo anymore eh? How about couch surfing? kay, sorry I should be more serious. A bed and breakfast sounds lovely, and I agree that it would be a good break. Yes it costs money...but I would say its worth it. I hope you are able to get away
